I recently visited East Kirkby and saw you chaps at work ,I would have liked to have chatted but saw the warning signs! Seriously though,it is amazing what you have all achieved and continue to do! As a retired aero modeller/flyer and more recently vintage car restorer,you amaze me each time I watch your videos.Your dedication and work is much admired and appreciated and hopefully will be for many years to come. Your efforts are fitting testament to the crews that flew/maintained these aircraft ,I thank you !

This was far too good quality for what was needed. German factories were geared up to very high quality, low production. Which is why they lost.

Back in the late 70s The Queens flight was hauled around different ( mostly by terrific engineers from Ricardo) Turned out / because of the excessive length of the * pushrod tubes* no one could join in the manufacturing… [except for our lot] Think there were 128 valve stems.. and only one of our “ wards” could create perfection… Needless to say it was Brian.. He. Worked 7 wk - each phos bronze assy ( I think) were * ball swaged* and fixed I no to place

I've heard they used one of these on the b-29 Superfortress 'Enola Gay' and 'Bockscar' the same b-29s that dropped the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were also equipped with a single suspension lug meaning that they were unable to put them on normal bomb shackles which had hooks for double suspension lugs so they've used one of these instead

Flying suitcase? Looks more like a flying envelope it's so narrow!

I've always had a special connection to the Lancaster and AVRO. I was brought up living right next door to Woodford. I now live minutes away from the site of the AVRO Factory in Manchester. As I did with XH558, I will be happy to donate funds to this worthy cause. I look forward to the day we can say THREE Lancasters are in flying condition

And now try to imagen a good dozen of them and their larger brethren, searching the Black night skies franticly while the air raid sirens howl, the flak guns firing continiously into the darkness with loud, sharp bangs, the growling bombers which get caught for seconds in the glaring light while they Release their deadly, whisteling payload out of their opened bomb bays... An orchestra of destruction, but also fascinating. I wonder whise Adrenalin levels where higher, the bomber crews up on the skies, ot the Flak crews down on the grounds.

There was one employed post-war in Norway(?) for engine testing. A pity that machine was not put away somewhere quiet...but in the late1940s so many interesting kites in storage and civilian use were simply chopped up with no thought (or no space or no money).
